Bio & CV Julia Mandle Artist
Julia Mandle currently resides in Amsterdam after being based in NYC for over a decade where she founded and ran a non-profit organization devoted to performance and installation art. Her work has been shown internationally and presented by a wide range of institutions including The New Museum, Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, Storefront for Art & Architecture, Queens Museum, the Tang Museum, The Drawing Center, Leila Heller Gallery and White Columns. She has lectured on her art and interdisciplinary approach at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Documenta 13, Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons School of Design, and Pratt Institute.
A recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, Julia Mandle has received support throughout her career from organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts, The Foundation for Contemporary Art, New York State Arts Council, The Jerome Foundation, the Consulate General of the Netherlands and more recently from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK) and the Mondriaan Fund.
She has also served herself as a juror on funding review panels for the Rhode Island Arts Council and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
Mandle received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Williams College and a Master of Arts at the Gallatin School of New York University. Additionally she has had artist residencies at Yaddo, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Guapamatacaro Mexico, Weir Farm Trust, and most recently at European Ceramic Work Center (EKWC) in the Netherlands.
The work of Julia Mandle has been published and reviewed in a range of journals including ARTnews, Whitewall Magazine, Washington Post, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, TimeOutNY, and Metropolis Magazine.
